Rajasthan slept under a blanket of quiet gold that night, unaware that its future King stood awake on the highest balcony of Rathore Palace — still as stone, silent as the desert around him.
Shivansh Rathore didn’t believe in omens.
But something in the air felt different.
Sharp.
Restless.
Expectant.
The cold wind cut across the marble but he didn’t move. Power sat in his stillness; danger hummed in the way his eyes scanned the distance. The world knew him as ruthless, feared, unreadable.
But tonight, even he felt it.
A shift.
A presence.
Someone was coming.
Footsteps approached. Only one person entered his chamber without permission.
Nakul Mehta.
“Another sleepless night?” Nakul leaned against the balcony, hands in pockets.
Shivansh didn’t answer.
Nakul sighed. “Right. Brooding in the dark again. Very on-brand for Rajasthan’s coldest monarch-in-the-making.”
Shivansh exhaled slowly. “Something is changing.”
Nakul straightened. “A threat?”
“No.”
“A warning?”
“No.”
“Then what?”
Shivansh’s voice lowered, almost a whisper.
“A beginning.”
Nakul blinked. “A beginning of what?”
“I don’t know.”
A silence. Heavy. Charged.
Below them, the palace was asleep — guards standing rigid, servants tucked away, torches flickering. Everything was as it always was.
Except Shivansh’s heartbeat.
It had stuttered once that evening — a thing it never did.
And he hated how unfamiliar that felt.
Nakul frowned. “You’re worrying me. And that’s not easy.”
Shivansh didn’t look at him.
His gaze stayed fixed on the horizon, where the city lights shimmered faintly.
“She’s out there,” he said quietly.
“She?” Nakul’s eyebrows shot up. “Now you’re talking like a poet. Who is ‘she’?”
Another pause.
“I don’t know,” he said again.
“But I’ll know soon.”
Far from the palace — miles away — a girl sat at her architecture desk, wiping silent tears with the back of her hand.
Ira Malhotra had spent her entire life holding herself together.
Tonight was the first time she felt herself breaking.
Her parents’ pressure.
Her company collapsing.
Her freedom slipping through her fingers.
She pressed her palm to her chest, whispering into the stillness:
“Just once… someone choose me. Not my responsibilities. Not my usefulness. Me.”
A soft breeze slipped through her open window, brushing her cheek like a strange comfort — too warm, too sudden.
She didn’t know the whisper she felt belonged to a man who had never believed in destiny.
A man who didn’t know her name.
A man who would burn the world before letting it touch her.
Back on the balcony, Nakul muttered, “I swear if this ‘beginning’ turns out to be a kitten or a political problem, I’m jumping off this terrace.”
Shivansh’s eyes hardened.
“It’s not a threat, Nakul.”
“Then what is it?”
Shivansh finally turned, meeting his friend’s gaze — the faintest flicker of something new in his eyes.
“Someone is about to enter my life.”
“And that scares you?”
“No.”
He looked back at the horizon.
“It unsettles me.”
Nakul stared.
Shivansh Rathore did not get unsettled.
Ever.
“Whoever she is,” Nakul murmured, “she must be dangerous.”
Shivansh felt that strange pull again in his chest.
“No,” he said softly.
“Not dangerous.”
His voice dropped into something almost… unfamiliar.
“But she’s going to change everything.”
He didn’t know how right he was.
Because fate had already started moving the pieces.
And the girl crying over her blueprint had no idea…
that the man written in her destiny had just felt her arrival in the wind.
The King in shadows.
The girl in the light.
Two worlds that were never supposed to meet
— already shifting toward each other.
Their story had begun.
Quietly.
Inevitably.
Like a flame catching fire from a single breath of air.
