Marriage or Punishment

đź“– Chapter 1: Shaadi Ya Sazaa? (Marriage or Punishment)

The Seghal Mansion didn't just sparkle—it roared.
Golden drapes cascaded from the balconies like waterfalls of silk. Marigold garlands hung in thick loops, their scent mingling with rose petals scattered across the marble floors. Fairy lights blinked like nervous stars, wrapped around every pillar, every tree, every corner of the sprawling estate.

But beneath the glitter, tension crackled like static.
The air was heavy—not with celebration, but with secrets.

Three mandaps stood side by side in the grand courtyard. Three grooms waited. Three brides were about to arrive.

And none of them were smiling.

🧔‍♂️ The Seghal Brothers

Aarav Seghal, the eldest, stood like a statue in his ivory sherwani. His eyes were sharp, scanning the crowd like a hawk. Calm on the outside, but inside, his mind was a battlefield. He didn't want this marriage. Not like this. Not forced. Not manipulated.

He glanced toward the woman who had orchestrated it all—his bua, Rajni Seghal. Dressed in a heavy silk saree, she smiled sweetly at the guests, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. Aarav's fists clenched. She was the reason behind this chaos. The reason behind the lies.

Vivaan Seghal, the middle brother, was pacing like a caged lion. His sherwani was slightly crumpled—he had refused to sit still for even a minute. "Shaadi yaa sazaa?" he muttered under his breath. "Kya farak reh gaya hai?"
("Marriage or punishment? What's the difference anymore?")

Reyansh Seghal, the youngest, leaned against a pillar, sipping water like he was at a casual brunch. His bride, Inaya, was the only one who had agreed willingly. But even he knew—love wasn't enough when the past was this twisted.

Their father, Raghunath Seghal, watched silently from his wheelchair. Once a powerful businessman, now a quiet observer. Their mother, Devika Seghal, stood beside him, her eyes filled with worry. She had raised her sons to be strong, but today, even she couldn't protect them from the storm.

The rest of the family buzzed around—Dadi, emotional and teary-eyed, whispering blessings; Chachu and Chachi, smiling politely, unaware of the storm brewing beneath the surface; cousins laughing, clicking selfies, oblivious to the fact that this wasn't a celebration—it was a reckoning.

🎶 Baraat Arrival

The dhols thundered. Fireworks cracked in the sky.
The Seghal brothers arrived with their baraat—luxury cars, dancing cousins, and a crowd that looked like it had stepped out of a Bollywood set.

But the brothers weren't dancing.
They were tense, silent, and brooding.

Reyansh (to Vivaan): "Baraat mein sab nach rahe hain... aur hum lag rahe hain jaise court hearing pe aaye ho."
("Everyone's dancing in the baraat... and we look like we're headed to a court hearing.")

Vivaan: "Court mein toh judge hota hai. Yahan toh sirf execution ho raha hai."
("At least courts have judges. This feels like an execution.")

👩‍🦰 The Brides Arrive

The music changed. The crowd turned. The brides were here.

Meher Thakur, the eldest sister, walked in first. Her lehenga was deep red, her eyes even deeper. She didn't flinch. She didn't falter. But inside, she was burning. She remembered everything—her sisters, the betrayal, the bua's lies. And now, she was marrying the man whose family had unknowingly destroyed hers.

Zoya Rathore, the middle sister, followed. Her pastel pink lehenga shimmered under the lights. She smiled politely, her heart guarded. She didn't remember Meher. But something about her felt... familiar. Like a dream she couldn't place.

Inaya Malhotra, the youngest, entered last, phone in hand, texting her assistant about tomorrow's event. "Shaadi ho rahi hai, not a funeral. Smile, people," she whispered to herself. Her lavender outfit was sleek, modern, and unapologetically bold—just like her.

The crowd clapped. The bua beamed. The brothers braced themselves.

đź’¬ Varmala Teasing Begins

As the varmala ceremony started, the tension cracked open with humour.

Vivaan (to Zoya): "Tumhare jaisi dulhan toh Netflix pe bhi nahi milti. Full drama, zero chill."
("A bride like you isn't even on Netflix. Full drama, zero chill.")

Zoya: "Aur tumhare jaisa dulha toh traffic signal pe bhi mil jaaye. Loud, flashy, and always in a hurry."
("And a groom like you? Easily found at traffic signals—loud, flashy, and always rushing.")

Reyansh (whispering to Inaya): "Tumhare heels se zyada sharp tumhari tongue hai."
("Your tongue is sharper than your heels.")

Inaya: "Aur tumhare smile se zyada fake tumhara confidence lagta hai."
("And your confidence seems faker than your smile.")

Aarav (to Meher, quietly): "Tumhare aankhon mein aag hai. Par mujhe jalne ka shauk hai."
("There's fire in your eyes. But I enjoy getting burned.")

Meher: "Toh phir tayyar ho jao. Yeh shaadi ek aag ka dariya hai."
("Then get ready. This marriage is a river of fire.")

🕯️ Ritual Begins – Expanded with Feelings, Vows & Dialogues🔶 1. Kanyadaan – The Hand That Trembles

Meher Thakur stood alone. No guardian. No father. No one to give her away.
Her eyes didn't blink, but her heart whispered: "I was never anyone's to give."

The pandit hesitated. "Kanyadaan bina pita ke... pehli baar dekh raha hoon."
("A kanyadaan without a father... I've never seen this before.")

Devika Seghal stepped forward. "Main maa hoon. Aur maa ka haqdaar har beti hoti hai."
("I'm a mother. And every daughter deserves a mother's blessing.")

She placed Meher's hand in Aarav's. Their fingers touched—cold, reluctant, electric.

Aarav (thinking):
"Her hand is trembling. Or is it mine?"

Meher (thinking):
"This isn't surrender. This is strategy."

Zoya Rathore had no one either. Her adopted father had died. Her mother was never found.

Vivaan looked at her, then at the pandit. "Kanyadaan toh ho gaya. Par kya dulhan ne diya?"
("The ritual is done. But has the bride agreed?")

Zoya (smirking): "Agreement ki zarurat sirf contracts mein hoti hai. Shaadi mein toh sab adjust karte hain."
("Agreement is needed in contracts. In marriage, everyone just adjusts.")

Vivaan (thinking):
"She's sharp. She's dangerous. I like it."

Zoya (thinking):
"He's fire. I'll either burn—or become flame myself."

Inaya Malhotra signed her own papers. No drama. No tears.

Reyansh watched her with quiet admiration. "Tumne khud ko diya. Mujhe toh bas accept karna hai."
("You gave yourself. I just have to accept.")

Inaya (thinking):
"I don't need saving. I need space. Let's see if he understands that."

🔶 2. Mangalsutra & Sindoor – The Thread That Binds

Aarav's hands trembled as he tied the mangalsutra.
Meher didn't blink.

Aarav: "Yeh dor tumhe baandh rahi hai... yaa mujhe tumse?"
("Is this thread binding you... or binding me to you?")

Meher: "Dono. Aur dono jalenge."
("Both. And both will burn.")

As he applied sindoor, her eyes locked with his—defiant, daring, divine.

Silent Vows:

Aarav: "I will protect her—even if she hates me."Meher: "I will uncover every lie—even if it breaks me."

Vivaan tied the mangalsutra with a smirk.
Zoya tilted her head, unimpressed.

Vivaan: "Tumhare neck pe mangalsutra ache se match kar raha hai. Jaise attitude ke saath accessory."
("The mangalsutra suits your neck. Like an accessory to your attitude.")

Zoya: "Aur tumhare ego ke saath yeh sindoor... thoda zyada dramatic lag raha hai."
("And with your ego, this sindoor looks a bit too dramatic.")

Silent Vows:

Vivaan: "I will burn every lie. I will make her smile—even if she fights me."Zoya: "I will not fall. I will not forget who I am."

Reyansh tied the mangalsutra gently.
Inaya adjusted it herself.

Reyansh: "Tumhare liye yeh sirf ritual hai. Mere liye... rishta."
("For you, this is just a ritual. For me... it's a bond.")

Inaya: "Rishta tab banta hai jab dono usse nibhaayein. Dekhte hain tum kitne din tikte ho."
("A bond only works when both uphold it. Let's see how long you last.")

Silent Vows:

Reyansh: "I will love her fiercely—even if she never says it back."Inaya: "I will stay strong—even if he loves me too much."🔶 3. Saat Phere – The Circle of Fire

Each couple walked around the sacred fire.
Each phera was a silent war.

🔸 Aarav & Meher

1st Phera (Duty):
Aarav: "I vow to protect her—even if she doesn't want me to."
Meher: "I vow to uncover the truth—even if it breaks me."

2nd Phera (Strength):
Aarav: "I vow to be her shield."
Meher: "I vow to never be weak again."

7th Phera (Eternal Bond):
Aarav: "I vow to burn with her, not without her."
Meher: "I vow to rise from the ashes—with or without him."

🔸 Vivaan & Zoya

1st Phera (Duty):
Vivaan: "I vow to fight for her—even if she fights me."
Zoya: "I vow to protect my heart—even if he tries to steal it."

2nd Phera (Strength):
Vivaan: "I vow to be her fire."
Zoya: "I vow to be my own flame."

7th Phera (Eternal Bond):
Vivaan: "I vow to never let her go—even if she runs."
Zoya: "I vow to never lose myself—even if I fall."

🔸 Reyansh & Inaya

1st Phera (Duty):
Reyansh: "I vow to stand beside her—even if she walks ahead."
Inaya: "I vow to walk alone—until he earns my trust."

2nd Phera (Strength):
Reyansh: "I vow to be her calm."
Inaya: "I vow to be my own storm."

7th Phera (Eternal Bond):
Reyansh: "I vow to love her—even if she never says it back."
Inaya: "I vow to stay true—even if he breaks."

As the final phera ended and the brides stood side by side, the fire dimmed—but the tension didn't.

Aarav (low voice to Meher):
"Shaadi ho gayi. Ab asli khel shuru hoga."
("The wedding's done. Now the real game begins.")

Meher (without blinking):
"Main haarne nahi aayi hoon. Main sach dhoondhne aayi hoon."
("I didn't come here to lose. I came to find the truth.")

Vivaan (to Zoya, smirking):
"Tumhare saath rehna suspense movie jaisa lagta hai. Har scene mein twist."
("Being with you feels like a suspense movie. Every scene has a twist.")

Zoya (coldly):
"Tum abhi trailer dekh rahe ho. Picture toh abhi baaki hai."
("You're still watching the trailer. The real film hasn't even started.")

Reyansh (to Inaya, softly):
"Tumhare aankhon mein kuch chhupa hai. Aur main usse samajhne ke liye tayyar hoon."
("There's something hidden in your eyes. And I'm ready to understand it.")

Inaya (smiling faintly):
"Samajhne se pehle... sambhalna seekho."
("Before you try to understand me... learn how to handle me.")

The camera flashes went off. The crowd clapped.
But behind the smiles, war had just begun.

🔚 Closing Scene: Three Brides, Three Storms

As the final phera ended, the brides stood side by side—three strangers, three sisters, three storms.

Meher burned with truth.
Zoya braced for battle.
Inaya masked her fear with fire.

The camera flashes went off. The crowd clapped.
But behind the smiles, war had just begun.
